For most of the students at Lindsay High School it was just like any other school year but for me it was my last time walking through the front gates for the first time. Walking through the front gates I felt myself getting a bit overwhelmed knowing that although I was going to keep walking through them every morning after this school year I would no longer be coming here. Just the thought of being a “senior” gives me the chills because I am finally the senior role model. Just the other day I entered this school as a freshman and now I am entering this school year as a senior. I can’t wait to see what is yet to come and all the new things that will be happening throughout the year. As a senior, I am looking forward to ending this school year with all of my friends and graduating with them as well.
The beginning of the school year started out good almost like any other year but this school year was ten times more stressful. I knew that I was going to be more busy than I already was because as a cheerleader I rarely had any free time and with all the deadlines coming in I was going to become more overwhelmed with all the things I had to have completed. Being seniors brought all of my class closer together because knowing that all we had was one year left and then we are all seperating made us all think about the little time we have together. I want to be able to look back later on in my future and remember my senior year with tons of memories and great accomplishments that I did.
This year my schedule is different than my other years. I didn’t have any classes that I was able to slack on. Not technically slack on but I had to stay on my game in all of my classes because falling behind was not an option. I had more complicated classes that if I didn’t get all of my work done by the end of the year they would most definitely hold me back from graduating.
My schedule went like this, for my first period class I had accounting 1 with Mrs.Caballero and I enjoy that class because I am into anything that has to do with money and business. For my second period class I have english with Mr.Gonzales. This year I feel like will be more stressful in english because it requires more assignments and deadlines for assignments. For my third period class I have economics with Mr.Traeger which I like because of the way he teaches his class. Fourth period I have intermedia guitar. This is my second year taking this class and I enjoy it because I learn new techniques every day. For my fifth period class I have chemistry with Mr.Coles. I like this class because of all the experiences and new things that we try. For my sixth period class I have Trig with Mrs.Dorch and that class is difficult for me because the math work is only getting harder and harder but I am more than willing to do all the work that is necessary for me to pass that class. For my seventh period class I have spanish 3 with Mr.Cabrera. I’m nervous for this years spanish class because it’s my first time in a more advanced spanish class and I am not as fluent as other spanish speaking students.
I know that this is year is going to more stressful than all my past years but I will make it my very best because this is my last year. My main concerns at the moment are finishing trig because the class is difficult and it comes with a lot of homework. My goal out of high school is to go to become a flight nurse for the air force. Anything is possible with dedication and hard work.
Changes
A Lot has changed these past couple of months, just like time as things move on so does everything around you. It’s kind of scary how things go by so fast, it shows you to appreciate the memories while they last. Everything with school is about the same, seems to get stressful the more we get closer to the end of the year. There's still a lot that I need to accomplish and a lot that I want to do before this school semester ends.
However I'm doing okay in my classes, there's still a lot of things that need to be completed. This semester is going to go by really fast, just one more week of school than we’ll be on our second break which is for Christmas, we will be getting two weeks off and i'm going to have tons of homework. As of right now i’m only on pass for four classes, and I need to be on pace for all 7 by the end of this semester because grades will be going out. The classes that I seem to be off pace for is Trigonometry, Economics, and Chemistry. Trigonometry is the class i’m most behind, the two others I just need to do a few make up test and turn in a couple assignments then i’ll be back on pace again so it's nothing too major.
On the other hand, there are some difficulties i’m having to face for my senior year. Such as getting my senior pictures done, preparing for my exit interview, and most of is staying on pace. That's probably the most difficult one because everyday there’s a new assignment and new deadline I need to stay up too. It’s hard to deal with school and home responsibilities at the same time, it’s a lot of work for one person to handle but it’s possible since i've been doing it these last couple of years. I've been having a few difficulties with working on my senior project only because there’s a lot of information I need to put in it. The journals are easy to do, but my job shadow and my resume and all the other things I need to have are kind of complicated. I hope to have it done as soon as possible because it’ll lift a huge weight off of my shoulders.
Although my senior project is frustrating there’s a couple things I like about it, the fact that it’s a documentary about my life in high school makes me smile knowing that there’s a lot that i had overcome and achieved. My senior year doesn't feel any different from the other years, it just feels like we're surrounded more and more by younger teens. Now I know how the seniors before us felt when it was our freshmen year. The steps I’ve taken for post graduation life is taking the ASVAB test to join the military, I’m really hoping to attend the Air Force but if not i'm planning to join the navy. I have a lot of support from my peers and other family members about joining the military, they are very encouraging and proud that i’ve made this decision. My parents are just a little nervous for me to be on my own but really excited for me to start my life.
Almost there.
My winter break went by pretty slow, which I was happy for. While I was on my winter break I was able to spend more time with my dog's newborn puppies, even though they always made a huge mess and where handful. I also got to work more, because of that i got more shopping money to spend on gifts for christmas. The day of christmas we went to my grandpas on my dad’s side of the family, we ate then after that we got to open our gifts which took a while because my grandpa has a lot of grandkids. All in all it was a good winter break.
What I loved most about my first semester was getting a lot of help from the teachers and support to finish on time. I regret not trying my best to keep up with my chemistry assignments, because of that I struggled a little to stay on pace with that class. With my teachers help from chemistry I was able to come after school and redo test and assignments that I didn't understand and was able to become back on pace. The reality of my first semester hasn't really hit me yet because i'm still in the moment i'm guessing but I feel that once i’m in the middle of my second semester It’ll start to hit me really hard.
Some of the things I need to accomplish for this semester Is completing economics. Economics was kind of difficult for me only because there was a lot of work that came with it and it became very overwhelming but I know I have everything done by the end of this year. I also need to stay on pace for english because that class requires a lot of work as well such as my modules and my senior project. I have to complete my senior project before my exit interview which is very stressful to me, either way I know I am a capable person and can get it done before the deadline.
After highschool I don't plan on going to college because I plan on doing the military and joining the Air Force so I didn't apply for any colleges this year. However, if all doesn't go as plan for the military I plan on attending fresno state second semester and sharing an apartment with one of my friends that are going to be going there as well. Finding a job for post graduation is something I don't have to do because I’ve been working with a family restaurant for almost 2 years already and dont think ill be stopping anytime soon.
However, first semester had a little bumps in the road but I know i’m going to be okay I am a very capable person so I know i’ll get everything done by the end of this year and be ready for graduation day and even though high school is very stressful, anything is possible if you can put your mind to it.
The end to a new beginning
These past couple of months have been going by really fast, we have 3 months until our actual graduation day and I am a little nervous because of all this work I need that I need needs to get done. I still need to catch up for my economics class, english, and chemistry class. For my economics class I need to redo and EOT and two projects, for my english class I need to do two essays and two precis, and for chemistry I need to redo a couple of quizzes and i’ll be back on track. I know that i’ll have everything done by the end of the year but in the moment it’s just a struggle to get everything finished.
The preparations i've taken for post graduation is signing up for the ASVAB test which is a Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery a multiple choice test, administered by the United States Military Entrance Processing Command, used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States Armed Forces. This test is going to determine whether on I make it into the Air Force or not, I would need to score a 50 on the test for me to be able to join the armed forces. I’m nervous to take it because if I don’t get the score I want i’ll have to take it in fresno and I heard that test is even harder than the one we have here at school.
I still have a couple of things to do such as getting caught up in my classes. I also want to get some things done at home like accomplishments, well not necessarily accomplishments but they’ll be accomplishments to me if i succeed in it. I want to be able to make a stronger bond with my dad because we don't talk as much or spend time together. My mom says that me and my dad are very alike that’s why it seems that we always bump heads. I also want to make mine and my mom’s relationship better because lately she’s been really busy and stressed because of bills and utilities expenses so we haven't been able to spend time with each other and talk about the things that are going on.
I'm most looking forward into graduating this year, i’m excited to start a new chapter in my life and be able to meet new people and explore places that I never been too. By joining the Air force it’ll help me make these things possible because i’ll always be traveling base to base which are stationed in different places and areas. Although i’ll been done with high school in a couple of months, I won’t be completely one hundred percent satisfied until I reach my goals and dreams. After I get my career I want to be able to help those who are in need and create organizations from city to city that’ll help this main topic. After I succeed in this and know that I am well off this ill be satisfied with everything that I accomplished.
I'm most grateful for having a loving and supporting family, they encouraged me to go above and beyond and helped me reach most of my achievements. I’m also grateful for the teachers here at lindsay high for having dedication and faith in the students on achieving their goals. Looking back on senior year I learned a lot, I know i am going to look back at the memories and wish i could go back and experience them again, All in all high school showed me a lot and was a really good experience.
